Are They High Quality Jade Bangles?

I sent you a request via your website and am following that up with pictures for you to review.
As I mentioned, I am trying to determine the value of the attached jade bangles. They were shown to B. at the Antiques Roadshow in 2007 who told us that they were very high quality jadeite from Burma. They are sewn into a silk covered box with Asian (Chinese?) characters on the outer side of the silk and Asian writing on paper covering the box inside the silk wrapping.
I would also like to know the translation of the Chinese characters and approximate age.

The jade bangles are no doubt Jadeite Jade, but it is difficult to determine whether they are Type A or Type B polymer impregnated jade. I believe that they are Type A.
They are not really very high quality jade as purported by B. (I used the first acronym of the appraisal firm you mentioned) at the Roadshow. I would say that they are slightly above average quality. The pictures of the jade bangles were taken with a purple satin cloth background which may make the color of the jade bangles more vivid.
There are several factors on these pair of jade bangles that excludes them to be of high quality jade. These are:
- 1. The translucency of the jade bangles can only be listed as good, say on a scale of Excellent, Very Good, Good & Fair.
- 2. The green color is not that vivid though it is taken on the purple background.
- 3. The color is also not even and appears to be slightly mottled.
- 4. There are certain faint black spots on the bangles.
The Chinese characters do not have much meaning in them as it is just some auspicious greetings.
The value of jade is very difficult to determine as there are no standards or benchmark to base the value on. The difficulty also arises that no two pieces of jade are the same, though they may be cut from the same stone.
We also do not put an age to a jade. If it is jadeite jade then the formation and crystallization of the jade may perhaps be several hundred million years ago. However, providence may be mentioned in international auction houses in its offer for auction that certain jade articles were formerly the properties of certain celebrities or personalities (eg Empress Dowager).

Just keep wearing those and they will become slpendid. That’s good when you can have a pair of type A jadeite bangles. You will see the differences and then you’re gona love them.
